Abstract

The interest of M. Federica De Riccardis is focused on functional coatings based on ceramics, polymers and nanocomposite materials. Her activities on EPD started in 2002 and were especially devoted to investigate some post-deposition processes such as electron beam and laser beam treatments, in order to improve the coating densification and its adhesion to substrate.
Recently, she has studied the EPD process applied both to thermoplastic and thermosetting polymers, aiming to obtain coatings with good resistance to corrosion and wear.
She supervises the activities of the “Electrosynthesis Laboratory” of ENEA where, in addition to EPD, Electrolytic Deposition is used in order to deposit materials in form of thin films. Recently, she has combined the two techniques and has obtained nanostructured coatings based on carbon nanotubes and conjugated polymers for energy applications.
